What is deep linking?
Deep linking or direct linking is linking to a specific interior page on a Netshops' niche website that your visitor is interested in. i.e. Linking to the product page for quilted fabric hammocks as opposed to the Hammocks.com homepage.
Why should you deep link?
While we feel that all of our Netshops' niche websites are laid
out very well, studies have shown that difficulties in getting from a website's
homepage to the desired product page account for nearly 25% of failures to buy.
That number is staggering and essentially it means that by linking directly to
a product page, you can largely eliminate the issues associated with consumer
navigation frustration. It is proven that if you take away the steps the consumer
has go through to get to their desired product, you will increase conversions.
And really, who doesn't want to get more bang for their buck?
How do I deep link? Deep linking
is really a simple process and we've tried to make it even simpler for you. There
are really only four steps to the process: 1. Find the URL that you want to
deep link to 2. Find the affiliate tracking for the correct store from the
deep linking spreadsheet
3. Change CDXXXX to your unique affiliate ID 4. Attach affiliate tracking
to the end of the URL so that you get credit for every sale Example: I have a page devoted
to the great quality of metal framed barstools and I've been hyping one style
in particular: the Montello Swivel Barstool. Instead of linking to the Barstools.com
homepage, I want to take my visitors directly to Montello Swivel Barstool product
page. These are the steps I need to take: 1. Find the URL for the Montello
Swivel Barstool a. I found it on Barstools.com: http://www.barstools.com/bar-height-stools/metal/montelloswivelbarstool.cfm
2. Find the affiliate tracking for Barstools.com a. a. This is
located in the Deep Linking Spreadsheet. Click here to download.
b. Affiliate tracking for Barstools.com is ?source=affiliates&bid=13157&aid=CDXXXX&opt=
3. Change CDXXXX to my affiliate ID a. ?source=affiliates&bid=13157&aid=CD1&opt=
4. Attach the affiliate tracking to the end of my desired URL destination
a. http://www.barstools.com/bar-height-stools/metal/montelloswivelbarstool.cfm?source=affiliates&bid=13157&aid=CD1&opt=
Deep linking really is that simple and you will absolutely see improved
results if you use it on your website. If you follow the directions, you should
have no problems whatsoever. Another important thing to keep in mind is that you
can also link to a product category. If you are promoting wood barstools from
Barstools.com, follow the same steps, but use the link for the wood barstools
section. Just remember - the deeper you go, the higher your conversions will be!
A couple of things to keep in mind when deep linking: 1. Each store's
sales are tracked through a unique BID (banner ID). Make sure you grab
affiliate tracking for the correct store. 2. If you want to get paid make
sure you replace the CDXXXX with your unique affiliate ID. The One Exception: It is a
rare occurrence, but if the URL you are linking to has a ? in it, you will need
to change the ? to a & in the affiliate tracking. Example:
* Your desired URL destination from Barstools.com is http://www.barstools.com/counter-height-stools/2293+2295.cfm?viewall=yes
* Since there is already a ? in the destination URL, you'll need to change the
? in the affiliate tracking to a &: &source=affiliates&bid=13157&aid=CD1&opt=
* The final URL would be : http://www.barstools.com/counter-stools/2293+2295.cfm?viewall=yes&source=affiliates&bid=13157&aid=CD1&opt=
